  • Severe or lingering toothache
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that doesn't go away
  • Swelling or a gum boil near a tooth
  • A deep cavity or crack reaching the nerve

What to expect

  1. 01Local anaesthetic
  2. 02Infected pulp removed and canals cleaned
  3. 03Canals filled and sealed
  4. 04A crown placed to protect the tooth (often the same day with CEREC)

Aftercare

  • Don't chew hard food on the tooth until it is crowned
  • Finish any medicines exactly as prescribed

Frequently asked

Is it better to just remove the tooth?

Keeping your natural tooth is almost always better for your bite and bone. Removal is only advised when a tooth can't be saved.

Can it be done in a single visit?

Many root canals can, followed by a same-day CEREC crown. Badly infected teeth sometimes need two visits.

Price: a plan and estimate are given at consultation. Individual results vary; your dentist will explain the risks and alternatives before you decide.
